Centre Director for Environment and Service Program, Amb. Margaret C. Kiprono was awarded the Exemplary Leader Award during an award ceremony that took place at Hyatt Regency, Nairobi. This prestigious Award was presented to her by the Eastern Institute for Integrated Learning in Management (EIILM), Kolkata, India.
Amb. Margaret has been passionate in promoting education for Sustainable
development and environmental conservation. She received the recognition because of her excellence in leadership, dedication in tree growing activities that restores greener spaces in schools and championing social impacts programs in institutions and communities across the country.
Amb. Margaret is a Champion of the ‘adopt a tree and tag a virtue’ initiative.
The ‘Adopt a tree and tag a virtue initiative’ is a service-learning best practice which is implemented by involving the learners to plant, adopt and tag the trees with virtues which they aim to nurture in life as the trees grow. Through this initiative, learners take on the responsibility of caring for their tree and nurturing of their chosen virtues such as noble purpose, hard work, humility, gratitude, responsibility, social justice, humility, respect and love as a ‘personal project’ under the guidance of a teacher or staff mentor.
‘This recognition is not just a personal milestone but a testament to the collective vision, dedication, and values that we uphold in the organization’ said Amb. Margaret as she received the award.
She added that “this recognition affirms the importance of leadership rooted in
character, compassion, and responsibility. It reminds me that true leadership is not about titles or accolades, but about service uplifting communities, advancing sustainability, and ensuring that every initiative reflects dignity and inclusivity.”
